Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers

life, music — markmorga on August 6, 2007 at 4:01 pm

Saturday night, Virgie and I went up to Gruene Hall in New Braunfels to listen to one of my all-time favorite bands, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. The Mother Truckers opened the show and were excellent! Great high energy country/roots-rock/Americana music. Their guitar player in particular was outstanding - lightning quick solos, with precision, taste, and cool licks.

The Peacemakers put on a fantastic show also. Every time I’ve seen them, I’m amazed at how much energy they put into the performance, how much they appreciate their fans, and how much fun they have playing their songs.

Roger was wearing that hat again. I really need to find where I can acquire one. Someone in the crowd brought this hilarious viking inspired hat out and Roger added it on to his gigantic sombrero. Roger Clyne with a Viking HatPhoto by Anton.

Anton took some cool photos that you can check out in his Flickr stream.

If you ever have an opportunity to see the Peacemakers - don’t pass it up. It’ll be one of the best shows you’ve ever seen!

A little autocross for you

This is a video I made for Matt featuring his autocross run in his Honda Civic hatchback. It is a taste test of some stuff I’m going to do for the full SASCA promo video.

Mark’s Guide to World Peace

life — markmorga on May 31, 2007 at 4:49 pm

There is so much aggression, pain, hate, anger, killing and not-niceness in the world right now. It doesn’t have to be this way.

If everyone in the world could just spend a few short days under my tutelage, the world would experience a level of united purpose and cooperation never before seen … united in effort to eliminate me.

Just a thought.

That guy has too much time on his hands!

I’ve grown to hate this expression because invariably it is uttered about someone who has created something rather than spend their spare time watching TV, drinking beer, goofing off on the job, staring off into space, playing video games, etc., etc., etc.

Now, not to say that any of those activities is a waste of time (except maybe watching TV), but since when is being creative considered an inappropriate waste of time in comparison?

What does this say about us that creating things is an activity better left unseen? Why is it better to see or buy the results of this on television or off the shelf at Wal-mart?

Just wondering. By the way, I’m working on some stuff right now that will probably elicit a few “…too much time on my hands” comments, but I don’t care.

Anton and I planned on stopping by the Dorkbot tent, but the line and crowd were too intimidating, so we left, checked into our hotel, then came back for later events.

The frog design SXSW Opening Party was pretty cool. Malford Milligan’s band put on a great blues show and the Interactive crowd proved all kinds of stereotypes about computer oriented people true. We stayed for an hour or so, then headed out a few blocks away to the final party of the night.

The BuzzFeed / Ze Frank After Party at the Molotov Lounge was a good time. Open bar - we had a lot of great conversations with people who will never remember having them with us. Also, we ran into Anton’s long, lost brother: this guy

The second session was one on how your vlog can save the world. This one was more interesting. The panelists were knowledgeable and passionate about the topic and had good information. When we talked with them after the panel and again later at the ze Frank opening night party, we found them to be really cool people also.
